The leaves are changing colors, the days are growing shorter, school has started, and the farmer's markets are all telling us: Fall has arrived. We are craving comfort foods, seasonal bounties, and easy meals for homework and sports filled weeknights.
First, think seasonal, local, and fresh. This may be your last chance for a while to enjoy nutritious fresh foods grown locally, so take advantage of the seasonal bounty. Build your menus based on what you are seeing at the farmer's market: squash, beets, and apples make up fall farm-to-table recipes.
Finally, make a priority of the family meal. September is Family Meal Month, and there is no better time to schedule having a meal together than when school is back in session and families are apart for most of the day.
The best thing you can do with your child: share a meal together. Now is a great time to plan, harvest, cook, and be together enjoying the best of the fall season.
